Area: Langtang/Helambu
Days: 10 day trip -08day trek, 2 day In Kathmandu
Dept. Ex. KTM -Every Friday/ Oct-May
Per Person Cost -

Situated a little over 30 kilometers north of Kathmandu, the valley of Langtang lies hidden amidst the snow-capped peaks of the Langtang and Fugal Himal ranges. Inhabited by people of Tibetan origin, this valley, where Yaks abound, extends north towards Tibet bordered by high Himalayan walls.

We begin this trek at the entrance of Langtang National Park and pass through the Taming/Sherpa village of Seabrook, before entering the narrow gorge of Langtang Kola. Following the densely forested Langtang Kola, we encounter languor monkeys, deer and several species of Himalayan birds before reaching the hidden valley of Langtang which opens up to us as we view the magnificent massif of Langtang Lirung (7239m./ 23750ft.) at Gore Tabela.

From Kyangjin, site of a Buddhist monastery and cheese factory, we climb for the Kyangjin Ri 4,773m/ 15,655 ft. for the best view of the mountains in the Langtang and Jugal Himal massif. The mountains here 'drawn in soft pencil on white a paper’ come down to meet the lush alpine meadows. Staying high we watch the impressive colour play of nature, as the setting sun changes from a gold bright to fading pink against the summits of these majestic mountains. If we are lucky, there is also a chance to sight the elusive snow leopard!

Inhabited by Sherpa people Helambu area situated 75 kilometer north of Kathmandu offers an easy and enjoyable trek. Trekking in this area mostly staying below alpine level, passing through wide & low river valley, terraced fields, forested hills and Sherpa houses with immaculately clean interiors provides one with a very interesting cross section of a special highland village of Nepal. The Sherpa people of Helambu are very different from the principal Sherpa villages in Solukhumbu area. Instead of the kimono like traditional long dress and colorful apron in the front popular among Sherpa women in Solukhumbu, women here wear dress of printed cotton with an apron in behind. They also speak a language which resemblances more to Tamang language than to Sherpa. However, Helambu women are well known for their apple like red cheeks and fair complexion in all over Nepal. They are considered the most beautiful ones.

We start this unique trek with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. Soon after we pass the Shivapuri ridge from where we have a sweeping view of the mountain in the Jugal and Langtang Himal range. We, then pass through some Tamang, Brahman and Chetri villages before we climb for the alpine meadows at Thadepati. From here, we turn east and descend through large fir, then oak and rhodendron area to arrive at Melamchi and Tarkegyang - the principle villages in this area. Here, we visit the 'thangka' painted village monasteries with statues. While in Tarkegyang, we climb to the Yangrima Ri 3,771m/12,368ft with a stupa on the summit. From here we have the best views of the mountains in Jugal Himal range with mist covered valley below. From here we visit Shermathang before descending to the Melamchi river to end our trek with a drive back from Sipa Ghat back to Kathmandu.
