Cho-Oyu is an ideal peak to begin your primary 8000m climbs. The meaning of Cho-Oyu in Sherpa/Tibetan language may have derived from the turquoise color lakes (Cho-yu) on the South side of this mountain in Gokyo Valley. Among the 14 eight thousand meter high peaks, it is the 5th highest. In 19 October 1954 Austrian Herbert Tichy, Sepp Jochler and Sherpa Pasang Dawa made the first successful ascent of this mountain.
